Stephen Yao is a Consulting Actuary with Perr&Knight, specializing in ratemaking and product development projects across both personal and commercial lines. Stephen’s expertise includes developing rate level indications and rate filing support, competitive analysis, and self-insured reserving.

Before joining Perr&Knight, Stephen served as an Associate Actuary at The Hartford, where he concentrated on commercial property pricing. His role involved designing and implementing pricing strategies that improved the company’s competitive positioning in the market. Prior to his tenure at The Hartford, Stephen worked at California Casualty where he was responsible for pricing personal auto and homeowners.

Stephen holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Actuarial Science from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He is an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society and continues his professional development through insurance-related seminars with an emphasis on advancing his technical proficiencies, as the industry increasingly trends towards big data and advanced analytics. Stephen is also a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
